Gain a Valuable Perspective on Two Interconnected Fields

The Certificate in Social Work, through the School of Infomration Studies, provides a theoretical foundation in social work practices, community collaboration, and experiential learning in a library with an active library social work program. It is intended for School of Information Studies students who are unable to pursue the dual MLIS-MSW degree and for those who intend to work primarily in public librarianship.

The certificate requires completion of 15 graduate credit hours as outlined in the University Bulletin. A maximum of six (6) graduate credits can be obtained from the School of Social Work.

Accreditation

海角社区's Master of Library and Information Science program is accredited by the  (ALA). On January 20, 2023, ALA's Committee on Accreditation voted to continue the Dominican MLIS's full accreditation status for another seven-year term. The next comprehensive review will take place in 2029. 


Chicago's Only iSchool

海角社区 is also a member of the , dedicated to advancing the information field. As Chicago鈥檚 only , Dominican鈥檚 School of Information Studies has long been a presence on Chicago鈥檚 higher education landscape, first offering library science programs in the 1930s.
