Caritas Veritas Symposium 2025 Call for Proposals
2025 Caritas Veritas Symposium: Embodied Work: Justice and Innovation
November 5, 2025
Proposals accepted through September 15, 2025
Our university mission statement affirms that as a Sinsinawa Dominican鈥搒ponsored institution, we prepare students to pursue truth, to give compassionate service, and to participate in the creation of a more just and humane world. The vision animating our mission claims that we will be an innovative leader in empowering graduates from diverse backgrounds to meet the challenges of an increasingly interdependent world.
At our sixteenth annual symposium we celebrate the work that has grounded us since the beginning and explore the topic of 鈥淓mbodied Work: Justice and Innovation.鈥 Our mission and the commitment that orientates our community toward justice will guide our exploration on November 5, 2025. This year, we focus on stories of mission for this moment. How are we embodying and celebrating this mission in our classes, our community, and our relationships?
We welcome scholarly, creative and artistic expression of the ways we engage one another in the pursuit of truth and collective wisdom. We invite the entire Dominican community- students, faculty, staff, trustees, alumnae/i. community partners- to ponder and explore:
- How do love and truth inform our commitment to justice?
- How does your discipline, teaching, study, or profession innovate in these times?
- How does the community support and deepen our work toward creating a more just and humane world?
We particularly encourage interdisciplinary 鈥痯roposals.鈥疻e invite students to consider their community-based learning, internships, research projects, clinical and field placements as loci of reflection and analysis on the guiding questions.
Proposals鈥 for 鈥痜ormal papers, research presentations, ignite-style lightning talks, panel presentations, round-table discussions, workshops, dialogues, and original creative work are all encouraged. We especially welcome鈥痯roposals鈥痜rom student presenters. The committee is happy to work with any member of the community who has an idea鈥痜or鈥痑 presentation but would appreciate help or guidance in refining it into a proposal.鈥疎xamples of previous presentations can be found on the鈥痵ymposium website.
Papers with a single author will be presented in a 30-minute鈥痜ormat, and sessions involving multiple presenters will be allowed 60 minutes. We ask that panels limit themselves to no more than four presenters. Ignite-style talks will be given 5 minutes and paired with others to complete a full session. All sessions should allow time鈥痜or鈥痗onversation with participants. Proposals鈥痵hould be approximately 150 words in length. In addition to your proposal, please include a two-sentence description of your topic鈥痜or鈥痯ublication in the symposium program. So that we might design a balanced symposium accommodating as many of the best鈥痯roposals鈥痑s possible, the planning committee may ask some individuals to adapt their preferred presentation鈥痜ormat to fit the program.
Proposals are being accepted now through September 15, 2025. Questions may be directed to Rachel Hart Winter, Director of the Siena Center rhartwinter@dom.edu.
